299 Tools
for Blender
299 Tools is a Blender helper suite for preparing figure data for 3D printing. It brings together seven tasks that repeatedly came up while turning AI-generated models into printable parts.
Development and basic testing have focused mainly on AI-generated figure-shaped meshes. Auto Segment is not intended for hard-surface models. You are free to try it, but it probably will not segment them well.
299 Tools v1.2.1 is now ready for release.
The suite includes seven tools: Size from Head Proportion, Simple Pose Helper, Auto Segment, Surface Bridge, Freehand Cut, Backface Check, and Clearance Boolean.
v1.2.1: Added Line Split & Separate to Freehand Cut and refined the UI and drawing controls.

299 TOOLS v1.2.1Size from Head Proportion
Calculates finished head size and the required scale factor from the current head dimension, assumed height, body proportion, and target model scale.
Simple Pose Helper
Creates a simple rotation axis from the selected boundary, making small pose adjustments such as moving an arm easier.
Auto Segment
Automatically classifies one mesh into multiple parts. Review the color-coded result, then re-segment or merge parts before confirming.
Surface Bridge
Specify two edge lines around an opening and create a curved surface between them, with control-point adjustment before confirmation.
Freehand Cut
Two methods: Outline Cut & Delete / Line Split & Separate. Delete an outlined area, or draw from outside the object to outside the other side to create a separate object. Cut surfaces are not capped.
Backface Check
Uses Blender's Face Orientation display to show backfaces in red, making visual inspection easier before 3D printing.
Clearance Boolean
Creates controlled clearance between parts by expanding a cutter and performing a Difference Boolean.
Development / Test
Environment
- Blender 5.2.1 LTS — primary development and test environment
- Mac mini M2
- 16 GB memory
- Windows / Linux: not tested
299 Tools v1.2.1 targets Blender 5.2.1 LTS and has been tested in the environment above.
About units
This is one area of 299 Tools where interpretation can vary depending on the working environment. The notes below describe the behavior confirmed in the development and test setup for 299 Tools; they are not a general conversion rule for Blender or STL files.
Behavior confirmed in the development environment
- The generated models used for testing show a head height of about 0.2 m when imported into Blender.
- With the current export and slicer setup, the same data is interpreted as about 0.2 mm in the slicer.
- In Size from Head Proportion, enter the number shown in Blender directly as the current head height. Example: 0.1977 → 0.1977
- Check the target finished dimension in millimeters.
Note: This does not mean that 0.2 m in Blender will always become 0.2 mm. Actual dimensions can vary with Blender unit settings, export format and settings, and the slicer you use. Always verify the final dimensions in your slicer.
